TV Eye

But don't expect to turn on the set and see brand-new shows immediately. Shows like Heroes (NBC), which relies heavily on post-production special effects, may not resume until much later in the year, perhaps till the next TV season – whenever that is. The way of doing TV was changing long before the strike began. The strike hastened the inevitable, which I believe will be a marker in TV history.

Fox's 24, with more than half of its episodes broadcast-ready, was shelved until the strike passed. However, sources indicate it may not air until next year (I suspect a January launch, following the next American Idol, as in years past). Until then, keep a lookout for TV from our neighbors to the north. NBC has already acquired The Listener, about a psychic paramedic, while CBS, ABC, and ABC Family are also considering Canadian-made series.

Tasty Low Calorie Foods: Fat Hidden In Fiber May Let You Taste, But ...

ScienceDaily (Feb. 12, 2008) — Low-fat foods are often disappointing to consumers since removing the fat changes the desirable taste, texture and aroma of the original product. Now, a team of researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst are developing a new technology that could lead to low-calorie foods that taste like the real thing.

FC Colerne bid to upset leaders

Rangers are four points clear of their nearest challengers, Box Rovers, and they will be confident that after Sunday's round of fixtures they will still have a healthy advantage over the other 12 top flight sides.

Rangers visit FC Colerne and the first meeting of the sides should go the way of the visitors, but the famous Colerne slope, which has led to the downfall of many sides in the past, might just help Ian Spirrell's side spring a surprise.

Rangers will be very confident ahead of the game but they will respect their hosts, who have won their last two matches but who have not played for two weeks so could be a little rusty.

The plus side for Colerne is that their injured players will have had more time to recover from their knocks.

Colerne could still be reeling from the loss of Sam Puckett to Box Rovers, but they will raise their game for the arrival of a Rangers side who are on a high at the moment and will view the game as one where they ought to claim maximum points.

A shopping experience with some meat to it: McKinnon's expands north ...

SALEM, N.H. - Melanie Davis of Derry was there for the meat.

Lunch meats, seafood, roast beef and pork chops to name just a sampling of the products in her shopping cart at McKinnon's on Route 28 in Salem.

"I usually buy three weeks' worth," the 33-year-old mother of three said.

It was only her second visit to the store - but that's pretty good for someone who has "no brand loyalty."

"I go where the sales are," Davis said.

Plus, she's looking for good quality.

"I had heard from people in Massachusetts - some Italian friends - who had shopped at McKinnon's in Danvers," she said. "I take their cooking advice."

So when she heard McKinnon's was opening up locally, she couldn't wait.

"When my sister and I came here for the first time, we were like kids in a candy shop," Davis said.

Fresh start: Preparing with a scrub and a nod to the kitchen god

A week ago, Jinny Chuang, in need of a large fish for yet another of her pre-Chinese New Year parties, found herself once again in front of the bustling seafood counter at the Asian Food Market in Edison.

She waved and caught the eye of the fish manager, Michael Zhou, who was taking an order over the telephone.

"He will find the best one for me," said a confident Chuang, 53, of Holmdel, a regular customer who owns a travel agency across the street.

Hanging up the telephone, Zhou, a tall, slender man in knee-high rubber boots that squeaked when he walked, was all business as he scrutinized the tanks under the counter brimming with large, live fish. Several minutes passed before he made his selection: a nearly 7-pound buffalo carp, which flapped its tail in protest as an employee hauled it out of the water.

Tom and Gisele Start the Pre-Playoffs Party

Tom and Gisele were looking like quite the beautiful couple as they headed to dinner in NYC on Sunday. We can only imagine how much fun it would be to join this couple for a celebratory dinner after Tom helped the Patriots complete a perfect season — drinks all around! Something tells us that Tom was happy to continue the celebration last night — between his new baby, perfect season and supermodel girlfriend on his arm, he must be on top of the world right now.
